Insider Sounds the “Panic” Alarm on Cup Teams as HMS & JGR Successfully Shred Apart NASCAR’s Ultimate Goal

NASCAR brought in the Next-Gen car with the intention that all cars would be the same regardless of the team, but, as far as results go, that has not been the case this year. Apart from Atlanta and Talladega, every race has been won by Hendrick Motorsports or Joe Gibbs Racing.

Now it’s no secret that those two teams are the biggest in NASCAR at the moment, but for an organization that has prided itself on delivering fair competition, that has certainly not been the case, and Bubba Wallace‘s spotter believes that everyone should be in “panic mode.”

Will Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing take over NASCAR?

In the recent episode of the Door Bumper Clear podcast, Freddie Kraft spoke about the rising disparity among teams in the Cup Series. As Toyotas and Chevys are making big strides, Ford does not seem to be anywhere in the picture. Even among those manufacturers, only HMS and JGR take all the spoils, apart from one Trackhouse and 23XI winning each. Kraft believes that this should be cause for concern among the other NASCAR teams of the same manufacturers, and of course, the Ford ones as well.

“I think everybody that’s not in a JGR or HMS car probably needs to panic because they’ve won every non-drafting track this year. Obviously, Ford wants to be better but should you be more concerned if you’re a team like Trackhouse or Legacy whose running the same manufacturer, technically supposed to be the same car as HMS and JGR and you’re not performing,” Freddie Kraft added.

Kraft is Bubba Wallace’s spotter, which means that he is involved with 23XI Racing. Despite having a team owner who drives for JGR, the veteran understands that this kind of dominance can end up killing the competition this year, and maybe it’s the teams that should up the ante. But are we experiencing a Formula 1-like culture here at NASCAR?

Veteran spotter highlights smaller Chevrolet and Toyota teams’ issues

Ford obviously has a lot of work to do as a manufacturer since their much-hyped Dark Horse Mustang has failed to make any kind of impression so far this season. For the Chevrolet and Toyota teams, there really cannot be an excuse. They have the same cars as HMS and JGR, yet they are so far behind. Speaking about Trackhouse Racing and Legacy Motor Club, Freddie Kraft highlighted some of their shortcomings.

Ross (Chastain) hasn’t been up there in the mix; maybe a couple of races here and there but not showing great speed, Daniel hasn’t shown great speed. The Legacy cars, they’re kind of mid-pack at best. So I don’t know…Ford has to be worried and so does everyone that’s not in those 2 organizations.

At this point, it seems like a tall order to challenge Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing, but which NASCAR Cup Series team comes closest to challenging them? Let us know your thoughts.
