7-1! Isn’t it enough to secure a seat in the playoffs? The Texas A&M Aggies are the last undefeated team in SEC play. Head coach Mike Elko has been on the right path so far. Last week they defeated the LSU Tigers and secured their seventh victory of the season. It was a massive victory for them, but they could not celebrate much because the dynamics kept changing every week in the SEC.
According to the rules, they still have chances to secure a spot in the conference title game by winning their remaining games of the season. However, the coming week is going to bring one of their crucial games this season. While the Aggies have dominated their opponents, the South Carolina Gamecocks, their opponents for the coming week are at 4-3. However, they still have a memorable season because of victories against Kentucky and Oklahoma. However, the Aggies have established themselves as a dominant force in SEC football so far. Still, the media and some experts are questioning their spot in the playoffs. Has Joel Klatt, an analyst for Fox Sports, joined them?
In the recent episode of The Joel Klatt Show: A College Football Podcast, he discussed his November bracket, but he skipped the Aggies despite going 7-1. Yes! You heard it right. Clemson is at 6-1. It looks like the underdogs from the ACC are gaining momentum and all the support. “I’ve got Clemson over Miami and in the Big 12.” Klatt said. The Clemson Tigers have showcased impressive performances on both sides of the ball this season, solidifying their position as a competitive force in college football. Now the question is, Aggies OR Clemson, who will secure a spot in the playoffs?

According to Klatt, Clemson’s consistent performance in the ACC solidifies its place among elite teams. Do you agree with him? Clemson is not the only team he appreciates; he strongly believes Oregon will remain undefeated, securing the top playoff spot, with Georgia following closely at number two due to their one loss to Alabama but impressive victories over Texas. “I’ve got BYU over Kansas State, so if that’s the case, I’ve got number one Oregon; they would still be undefeated, and they would still be number one. Two would be Georgia with the one loss to Alabama but then coming back and beating Texas twice. The only reason they wouldn’t be number one is that Oregon would be undefeated; they would be number two. Clemson is still my ACC champ that’s going to remain the same. I’ve got them at number three.”
Although Klatt sees Clemson as a strong contender for the college football playoff, they will face some challenges ahead. The ACC is changing, and other teams are starting to look like threats. Coming Saturday, they will play against Louisville. Will they win and prove Klatt right? Let’s hear Elko’s comment after winning over LSU.
Mike Elko’s postgame comment sparks controversy
Every head coach has their say after their victory. After the Aggies won over LSU, head coach Mike Elko’s statements created a controversy. Although he clarified the remarks he made after their recent victory and mentioned them, he did not intend to criticize any former or opposing coaches.
In the postgame news conference, he said, “This is a real program. It’s not fake, it’s not a politician running this program talking fast and BS’ing everybody. This is a real program and for all the recruits out there, this is a real place, and if you want to be really good at football, this is a really good place to be.”
His comment went viral and people thought he was taking a dig at former Aggies coach Jimbo Fisher. Fisher was fired last year after a disappointing 45-25 record over six seasons. However, Elko cleared the air and mentioned, “For anybody in the media to think that that was what I was doing post-LSU is asinine.” While some people thought he was taking a jab at former Aggies coach, some of them speculated that Elko’s comments were for LSCU head coach Brian Kelly. Did you know he had a brief career in politics before he became a coach?
However, Elko has cleared the doubts. Moving forward, it will be interesting to see if they maintain their winning streak or if week 10 will come with its challenges.
