When the Texas Longhorns entered the arena to face off against Mississippi State, the team knew they needed a result at the venue. This was because they had been in quite a bad run for some time. The Longhorns had lost three back-to-back games, which included an embarrassing 2-3 loss to crosstown rivals Texas A&M. They then went on to lose two more five-set games against Missouri and Oklahoma.
This terrible form raised many eyes as fans were getting agitated. Thus, they had to defeat Mississippi State to get back into the winning column. For this to happen, they needed a star performance from one of their players. Thankfully, the Longhorns still have Madisen Skinner on their roster. The senior proved on Wednesday why she’s considered one of the best prospects in college volleyball right now.
The two-time All-American charged her team to victory with an incredible 25 kills as Longhorns won the game 25-8, 25-15, 21-25, 25-17. Out of these 25 kills, nine of them came during the fourth set, ensuring her team’s return to the winning column. Other than that, Averi Carlson delivered 45 assists as the main setter in the rotation. Emma Halter’s 15 digs also helped the side a lot, guiding them to a resounding victory. Thus, the fans of the team seemed delighted with the result.
