No one has changed the rosters as frequently as the Kansas City Chiefs have done this season. The Chiefs barely won their last game against the Las Vegas Raiders and Patrick Mahomes did something in that game that he hasn’t done in his career, ever. Take five sacks! That was so shocking for Andy Reid that he decided to bench Wanya Morris, who allowed 3 sacks in that game.
The sophomore tackle later apologized, and he might have his work cut out for him. The Chiefs were the first team to secure the one seed and at this point, it’s logical for Big Red and his team to not take any risks. That’s why they signed a new left tackle, DJ Humphries, the former Arizona Cardinal, who tore his ACL last year and didn’t play.
DJ Humphries might just take Patrick Mahomes’ woes away
Chris Jones, the Chiefs DT gave him a warm welcome to Kansas City. As reported by Charles Goldman of AtoZ Sports, Jones says, “I have a lot of respect for his game. I think he’s going to be an asset to this offensive unit,” of DJ Humphries. But there’s more than one reason they decided to get a tackle with 8 years of starting experience.

Kinglsey Suamataia, the rookie OT started the season on a high, but Reid lost confidence in him after the week 2 game against the Cincinnati Bengals when he allowed a couple of sacks. The HC is benching him so he can learn. At least that’s what Andy Reid paints the situation to be like. Patrick Mahomes on the other hand, was the one to ask the head coach to make a huge change during the Raiders game when Wanya Morries allowed 3 sacks on him.
Morris was replaced by Joe Thuney in the game as Patrick Mahomes was upset about not being able to score in the red zone. “I’ve played with all those guys before and I know those guys are out there battling,” Mahomes said. “They’re out there and they’ve played winning football before and so I just go about my business, go about my process and try to stay within the scheme of the offense and then when stuff breaks down, I try to go out there and make plays.”
Coach Andy Reid hasn’t made it official whether Humphries will be starting against the Chargers or not. That’s because Humphries hasn’t had a lot of time to practice with the back-to-back Super Bowl winners. So, it’s understandable that the tackle learns more before finally seeing the field. Big Reid will “play it by ear” for now and give Humphries some play time when the OT feels ready.
Speaking about the Chargers game, let’s check out the injuries.
Do the Kansas City Chiefs have an upper hand over the Chargers?
The Kansas City Chiefs have released the week 14 injury report and there are a few things to worry about. There’s no clarification whether these guys will play or not. Noah Gray, the tight end had a shoulder injury but has been a full participant on Wednesday and Thursday practices. Charles Omenihu also had some knee complications but participated on Wednesday and Thursday’s practices fully. Same is the case with Right tackle Jawaan Taylor, except he was a limited participant on Thursday.
The Chargers on the other hand are battered right now. Junior Colson, the LB, is on IR. He’s been a limited participant on Wed and Thu. Bud Dupree (OLB), Cam Hart (CB), Daiyan Henley, Tony Jefferson, Khalil Mack, Ladd McConkey, Elijah Molden, and Denzel Perryman are among a few who had problems practicing Wednesday and Thursday.
With this, the Chiefs will be playing against their divisional rivals at home. It’s going to be cold at GEHA Field for sure, which might be a problem for Jim Harbaugh’s boys. Let’s see how the SNF game goes.
