Micah Parsons has never been one to hold back. The man talks his talk and walks it, too—on and off the field. But in a rare moment of reflection on his podcast, The Edge with Micah Parsons, the Dallas Cowboys superstar admitted something that had college football fans doing a double take. The Nittany Lions legend, who bulldozed his way through the Big Ten before terrorizing NFL offenses, dropped a bombshell and comes clean about his college decision and wishes what could’ve been.
Micah Parson wishes he had taken a visit to the University of Texas. Yeah, you read that right. Turns out, Austin had a shot, but Parsons never even made it down there before locking in with Penn State. And after spending four years in Texas, he’s starting to think he fumbled the bag on that one.
During last week’s episode, Parsons and Atlanta Falcons star Bijan Robinson got to reminiscing about their recruiting days, a time when every major program in the country literally lined up for a shot at landing the five-star linebacker. Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Nebraska—you name it, they wanted him. But Parsons, a Harrisburg, PA, native, went with the hometown squad at Penn State. Simple choice, right? Maybe. But now, with Dallas being his home away from home, he’s looking back at that decision through a different lens.

“I had got an offer, and I tell all my people to this day, I wish I took a visit,” Parsons said, shaking his head. “Now that David [Mulugheta]’s my agent, I’ve been down to Austin, I’ve been on Sixth Street, and I see what the community is like. I’ve seen the game atmosphere, man, I tell people all the time, I wish I took a visit.”
That Texas lifestyle? Yeah, it’s different. Parsons has seen the game-day energy, the burnt orange passion, and the madness that takes over DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. And it’s got him wondering—what if? What if he had given the Longhorns a real look instead of locking himself into Happy Valley so early? Penn State was home, but was there more out there? Could he have been rocking that burnt orange, hearing Texas Fight instead of We Are Penn State? It’s all hypothetical now, but in Parsons’ own words, “Man, I just wish I had seen it for myself.”
Micah Parsons’ Alabama offer: a wild what-if
Parsons’ podcast has become a goldmine for NFL fans, and in his latest episode with Chargers safety Derwin James, he casually dropped yet another jaw-dropper: Alabama wanted him—not as a linebacker, but as a running back.
Parsons—he’s a quarterback’s worst nightmare, built like a tank but moves like a sports car. Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide saw something different in him back in high school. “Bama offered me… to play running back,” Parsons said, his voice dripping with what could have been energy. “What is Micah Parsons? Fast and big! ” Derwin James was in serious disbelief. “No way, you ain’t got no finesse, though, bro. I can’t see you as a running-back, no offense, bruh”
Look, he’s ain’t wrong. At 6’3”, 245 pounds, and moving at demonic speed—Parsons ran a 4.36-second 40-yard dash—that’s straight-up unfair. For context, that’s faster than Derrick Henry, who runs a 4.57 and is already a nightmare for defenses. Micah Parson in crimson would’ve ended poverty. It’s a crazy thought, but it makes sense. Alabama is a factory for elite running backs, and Saban clearly saw the vision. And while Parsons ultimately chose defense (thank God for quarterbacks everywhere), the idea of him plowing through SEC defenses like a runaway train? That would’ve been must-see TV.
Every athlete has those “what if” moments, but Parsons’ reflection on Texas and Alabama opens a whole new conversation. The man is already one of the scariest defenders in the NFL, a two-time All-Pro, and the heart of the Cowboys’ defense. But in another timeline? He’s out there wrecking shop for the Crimson Tide’s backfield or running the Big 10 with the Longhorns.
It’s wild to think about, but here’s the thing—Parsons landed exactly where he was meant to be. Penn State made him a household name. The Cowboys made him a superstar. But Texas? Alabama? Man, those would’ve been some insane plot twists.
